It is located on Via dei Rossi, very close to the Basilica of San Francis (learn more on this beautiful basilica at this wikipedia link), on the way connecting the basilica itself with the popular Via dei Banchi di Sopra.
It passed my two basic test: The Restroom Test™ (or you call it loo?) and The House Wine Test™.
In fact I do believe places that take care of the restroom are places that take care of their customers and run their business with passion. In this place the restroom is tiny and simple but taken care of, lovely and clean. I always remember the Ford saying: "Quality means doing well when you are not seen".
Also the (red) house wine was a sincere wine with character, feels good and leaves a memory, with an original feeling on the top of the mouth, for € 3 for a 1/4 of liter. I would guess 12º alcool, so a real thing, not an "acquarello", as we say.
Food is original Tuscan, that means simple, sincere and strong taste, with classic Siena dishes including Pici pasta in many traditional styles and the Ribollita soup I love, and second courses ranging from chicken to pig, to "Trippa alla Senese", to "Cinghiale in Dolce Forte" that is a middle age receipt based on wild pig cooked with chocolate and pine nuts.
Prices are delicious too: first courses range between 6 to 8 €, while second courses range from 6 € to 13 € (the Cinghiale one). They also have grill, with Fiorentina at 4€/100gr. And yes, this was at dinner time: You can easily find double prices with lower quality food, in other touristic places.
Being an "osteria-style" place, if you are in one or two persons you migh easily be seated sharing a bigger table with others, making it more social but maybe not the best place if you are looking for a romantic dine out. Also being the place quite small, it was not noisy at all, and the service quick and polite, helpful with insights and happy to make you happy.
I was on an hurry to join an evening meeting, so I got Pici all'Aglione (that in Siena are made just with garlic and butter, pepper on top as you please, but no tomato) and a vegetable side dish of white beans with fresh onion, with the mentione 1/4 wine and a bottle of water, coffee. All together I was asked for 18€, including service & bread.
Definitely to recommend, even if I did not get the best white beans of my life.
You may wonder how I managed to join a meeting just after having eaten garlic and fresh onion... yes you should.
